I’ve been wanting to write this review for quite some time now – this is one of my favourite food spots in London, tucked away down a quiet side street by King’s Cross station. It’s one of those places that you need to know about before you go, as you wouldn’t likely stumble upon it by chance. Quaint, unassuming and easily missed, Dim Sum & Duck must be added to your foodie list.
With fast and friendly service, affordable prices and a charming ambiance, you won’t be disappointed. It is clearly a hot spot for regulars, as many neighbouring customers were ordering without checking the menu – it is the happy medium between quiet and lively, escaping the London tourist hypes and retaining its air of authenticity.
What to Order?
- Prawn Dumplings £4.80
These delicious sticky balls were served piping hot and within 10 minutes of ordering. The dough was perfectly light and firm, packed full of beautifully pink prawns – you get four dumplings per serving, which is pretty good value for money, when you consider how large they are. We shared these between two and were left perfectly satisfied – the ideal balance between light and filling.

- Vegetarian Dumpling in Chilli Oil Sauce £4.60
For a bit more of a kick, these veggie dumplings are served hot & spicy. The dumplings themselves weren’t as flavoursome as the prawn dumplings, but the chilli oil gave them a moreish appeal which we couldn’t resit. The filling was tender and quite light, which was slightly overpowered by the richness of the oil – but nonetheless, delicious overall!

- Salt & Pepper Squid £6.80
If you’re anything like me and can’t resist the temptation of ordering fried squid, then this dish is definitely for you. The batter was light and crisp, full of flavour and melted in your mouth. The squid was perfectly delicate and soft – you could easily scoff a few portions if you aren’t careful. I am always cautious about ordering seafood from restaurants which aren’t close to the source, but these were a pleasant surprise.

- Garlic Crispy Spring Roll £4.80
I’m yet to be disappointed by the crunchy goodness of a spring roll – deep-fried pastry, prawns and veggies…I mean you can’t go wrong! These were amazing and had a flaky pastry and a steaming centre (be careful – let them cool first, we burnt our tongues). Unlike some poorer renditions of the spring roll I’ve tried in the past, these were not too oily, and each component managed to hold its own integrity, without congealing into a stodgy mess. Everything tasted fresh and homemade – I recommend feasting into a few of these.

- Roast Pork Bun £4.60
I have saved the best dish until last. I am yet to find a contending rival to match these beautiful domes of dough. The flavours were divine – pork which fell apart in your mouth, bathed in a rich, sweet and savoury sauce. The delicacy of the dough balanced the textures and flavours of the meaty centre, the main event of the meal and a dish I highly recommend ordering.

Our whole meal only came to £12.80 each and we left feeling quite full and incredibly satisfied with the food, service and atmosphere – if you love dim sum as much as us, and want to try somewhere new in London, then you’re in luck, just take a trip down to Dim Sum & Duck.
