Located off the main high-street in Peckham, only a short distance from the station, Mr Bao is the perfect spot to enjoy a light and delicious lunch with your friends or family. With a range of tasty sharing plates, complete with mouthwatering dipping sauces, fluffy bao buns and a variety of cocktails, Mr Bao certainly lives up to it’s reputation & I for one cannot wait to return!
To start, we ordered a range of sharing platters: steamed broccoli, crispy chicken and sweet potato fries. The broccoli is seasoned to perfection, the chicken is light, crispy and tender and the sweet potato fries were beautifully crisp on the outside with a fluffy centre – however, for me, it was the miso dips that came with each dish that stole the show. Salty and creamy with a tangy kick, I would happily eat this everyday! For our mains, of course, we had to order the infamous bao. A selection of the chicken, bacon and prawn bao were shared between four of us and were more than enough to fill our appetites. For me, the chicken bao was by far my favourite, as the crispy chicken complimented the cloud-like dough perfectly. However, all dishes were delicious and more importantly, affordable – we spent around £15 each including a cocktail, which is a rarity in London.
Whether you’re in the area, exploring the weekend flea and car boot sales or just looking for a new spot to try, I highly recommend stopping into Mr Bao!
