It might be home to the iconic fight scene between Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones, but you’ll be pleased to hear that Bedales of Borough doesn’t serve up blue soup! Situated in the heart of Borough Market, Bedales sits directly opposite Bridget Jones’s apartment. Whilst it’s had a makeover since it’s Hollywood days, Bedales is no less intimate and rustic than as it appears on-screen. With an upstairs terrace that extends over the market place and an al fresco set up round front, you can get right involved in the hustle and buzz of the most exciting market in London!
I can safely say that since visiting this welcoming wine bar, it has become one of my favourite spots in the city. A lively atmosphere, kind and efficient service, and not to mention the mouth-watering food, I cannot believe it has taken me this long to book!
The Food
The menu is a mixture of various European cuisines in classic tapas style, small plates. Between two of us, we ordered four dishes and were perfectly stuffed by the end of the meal. And best of, the food is delivered quickly, enabling you to get stuck in straight away! In the spirit of dry January we opted for soft drinks, but by all means, don’t follow our lead – make sure to try some of their wines and cocktails too!
1. Padron Peppers with Smoked Chilli Salt
7/10 – These were zesty, spicy and unlike anything I’ve ever had before. A really interesting twist on a classic! £6.50
2. Spicy Feta dip with Pita
10/10 – Star of the show! This was by far my favourite dish. The dip was tart, creamy and riddled with flavour. 5* to the waiter who kept topping up our pitta bread! £7.50
3. Crushed and Fried pink fir potatoes with Saffron Aioli
8/10 – The crispiest potatoes with a fluffiest core. The saffron aioli was a lovely touch, the flavours worked really well together. £7.50
4. Crispy Calamari with black garlic aioli
5/10 – Not the best calamari I’ve had, but tasty nonetheless. The batter was really crisp, but perhaps too much on the oily side for my liking. The textures were there, but I wasn’t blown away by the flavours – the garlic aioli didn’t taste of much and it would have been better paired with a sweet chilli sauce instead. £12
