A musical that will have you constantly questioning whether you should laugh, cry or spit out your drink; The Book of Mormon is by far the most controversial, yet charming production I’ve seen so far.
I wouldn’t dare begin to explain the plot. It is a show which deserves the raw response of naive and unassuming eyes. I for one had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly shocked. Profanity arm-in-arm with morality, an unexpected, albeit amusing duo. However, beyond the distracting clasps of crudity and vulgarity, lies a beautiful portrayal of character, belief, relationships and society – underneath it all, The Book of Mormon is simply a paradoxical parody, a comedic commentary on both the ignorance and solidarity of mankind.
The sheer talent and conviction of the production team and the actors is incomparable. The costumes and sets switch seamlessly, the vocal talent is phenomenal and the songs themselves are undeniably excellent. A truly breathtaking production, one which is sure to stir both awe and abhor.
