Burrowed away from the vibrant bustle of Borough Market lies Boro Bistro. A secluded restaurant on the outskirts of the market, boasting an extensive outdoor terrace. Having walked past on multiple occasions, enviously peering down on the terrace from the bridge above, I thought it was about time I tried this lively bistro out for myself!

The inside is no less charming. Nic nacs pinned to every corner and mountainous candles scaling the walls…you’ll feel as though you’ve entered into a mysterious tavern from a fantasy novel! There’s a warm and cosy atmosphere indoors, the perfect snug hideaway for chilly evenings and winter months. Every last detail has been meticulously constructed, even down to the toilets. After a couple of drinks I was in for quite the shock as I headed downstairs…but I won’t give too much away, you need to check these lucid loos out for yourself.

The Food

1. Padron Peppers £4

6/10 – These were particularly big, thick and juicy. My love of padron peppers has made me quite the critic, which is why I can only award these a 6. I would have preferred slightly more flavour, but a solid performance nonetheless.

2. Oven Baked Chorizo £3.50

6/10 – These tasted really fresh and were packed full of flavour, however the texture was slightly too chewy for me personally. For the price though, I would definitely order again!

3. Bread with black olive tapenade & garlic and basil dip £6

7/10 – This was one of my favourite dishes. The bread was fresh and light, but the real star of the show was the black olive tapenade. I loved every mouthful! It was sweet and light, with an almost date like flavour and consistency. Would definitely order again!

4. Lonzo, Coppa & dry cured ham from Corsica £14

4/10 – Likely a result of personal preference, but this dish just wasn’t for me. I prefer cured meats incredibly thin and these were slightly on the thicker side. My friend however loved this dish and happily put away the whole board!

In general, whilst the experience was nice, I found the food at Boro Bistro rather ordinary. However, though nothing really blew me away, I wouldn’t hesitate to return and try some of their other dishes. The atmosphere is great and the prices are incredibly affordable, not to mention how adorable their terrace would be on a summer’s evening!
