Since opening its gates to the magic of Christmas in 2013, Kew Gardens has become a festive favourite for Londoners and visitors alike. Over the years, it has evolved into something quite extraordinary, introducing new attractions and entertainment year on year. With twinkling lights draping from the canopies and a fantastical display decorating the lake of the Temperate House, Christmas at Kew certainly ignites the spirit of Christmas!

The trail takes visitors on a magical journey through sparkling tunnels and past marshmallows roasting on spits. With the hum of Christmas classics dancing in the air and the sweet aroma of hot chocolate and mulled wine, this winter wonderland is perfect for both families and friends. In recent years, the exhibition has also become a foodie’s fantasy, hosting a range of delicious street vendors in the food village – from Christmas staples to international delights, the village has a little something for everyone, so make sure to bring an appetite!

Last winter, I was relieved to see the familiar return of marshmallow roasting, a delicious diversion en route, which beckons visitors passing. Plump cubes of sugary heaven charred over the welcome warmth of embers and flames – an activity I often see in the movies but rarely get the opportunity to do! It was also brilliant to see the attractions evolve, elevating the experience rather than taking away from it. My favorite addition last year was a projection of vibrant flowers which painted the footpath in a luminous technicolor array. Though I can’t promise this flower power installation will be returning this year, I can assure you that the show is in safe hands, and I cannot wait to see what Kew has in store for us this year!
