Chapter – 72 – is nestled in the heart of Bermondsey Street, barricaded by charcoal boards proudly proclaiming “(one of the) BEST Espresso Martinis in London.” Next to this enticing testimonial is an even more appealing list of artisan espresso martinis: black forest, gingerbread, popcorn, and even piña colada. From the weird to the wonderful, Chapter – 72 – knows exactly what they’re doing when it comes to coffee. You may even be pleasantly surprised by its quirkier options!
During the daytime, Chapter – 72 – is better known for its delicious (non-alcoholic) coffee. Started by a husband and wife duo with a passion and love for coffee, you can taste the care and craft that goes into every drop at this independent cafe-bar hybrid. It oozes authenticity and originality, making it one of the few spots in London that truly feel unique and untouched by the masses.

Inside, a retro and homely atmosphere warmly welcomes you. Despite the small space, they’ve made the most of it with leather booths lining the walls and small bars squeezed into its nooks and crannies. Come evening, an energetic vibe lights up the room, creating a visible spectacle for passersby. Laughter, clinking martini glasses, and the pulsating beats of 80s pop music bring this caffeinated chamber to life.
The salted caramel espresso martini was a highlight for me. While I can’t say for certain that this is the best espresso martini in London, it is definitely a strong contender and one that I will undoubtedly be returning for!
