Clos Maggiore is renowned as one of London’s most exquisite restaurants. As you pass through its Parisian entrance, dressed in regal burgundy, you are instantly transported to an intimate and inviting interior that feels like a journey back in time. This warm escape from the bustling cobblestone streets of Covent Garden makes it the perfect choice for special occasions. It’s proximity to the West End further adds to its appeal. We visited Clos Maggiore to celebrate Mother’s Day before heading to the Top Secret Comedy Club. Overall, our experience was exceptional, with the welcoming staff and delicious food making the occasion all the more special!

The interior exudes vintage grandeur with its dim lighting, low ceilings, velveteen furnishings, and finely suited staff. The restaurant is incredibly charming throughout, but I highly recommend requesting to be seated in the lower main dining space. Nothing could have quite prepared me for its beauty! The dining space may be small, but its mirrored walls create the illusion of an endless cavity of elegance. Adorned by a canopy of cherry blossoms that vine up the walls into a cloud of powder pink, it is certainly one of the most romantic and unique spaces I have visited. At the centre of the room stands a striking fireplace, which creates a cosy allure – I can only imagine how special this space must feel during the festive season!

The Food

Whilst Clos Maggiore has attracted much attention for its beauty, it is renowned first and foremost for its exquisite menu. We opted for the weekend set menu, which totals at £44.50 a head and includes three courses and a glass of bubbly. I believe this is exceptional value for money, considering the quality of the food, the service, and the location. Here’s what I ordered:

Orkney Scallop, Roasted Cauliflower, Caper Raisin, Coconut & Lemongrass

7/10 – The scallops themselves were absolutely divine; tender, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The rest of the dish was paired perfectly. However, I wasn’t a huge fan of the foam, which is just a personal preference. In terms of flavour, this dish hit all the right notes, but I would have preferred more simplicity in the plating.

Roast Cod, Warm Salad of Monks Beard & Sea Herbs, Trout Caviar Velouté

7.5/10 – Cod is one of my absolute favourite types of fish and this was fantastic. The flavours worked well together, and the fish was flaky, buttery, and utterly delicious! However, the monks beard and sea herbs didn’t work for me from a textural point of view. I believe the dish could benefit from greater simplicity, as it felt a bit overcomplicated.

Poached Pear Tart

7/10 – This sweet, tart, and delicate palate cleanser is the perfect way to finish off a meal. The rich and dense casing encases the light cream and soft, spiced pear, creating a delightful combination of flavors and textures.

Truffle Mashed Potato (+ £7.50)

7/10 – Creamy, buttery, and everything you could want from a mash. The truffle didn’t add much as its flavour was mild, but the dish was tasty nonetheless.

Carrot, Honey & Mustard (+ £7.50)

8.5/10 – I absolutely loved this flavour combination. The carrots were perfectly crunchy and al dente, and the balance of kick from the mustard and sweetness from the honey was just right!
