Nestled within a narrow lane off the cobbled square of Covent Garden, this dark and mysterious locale has an intriguing & inviting ambiance. There is an air of exclusivity about Condesa, which one can’t help but want to be apart of – and despite its modest size, there’s a bustling, lively energy bursting within its walls.

Visiting on a Thursday evening, we were seated within a crowded den of suits and ties, after-office cheers and small-plate small-talk. The intimate setting finely balances refinery and evening casual, making it an ideal post-work meeting ground. A small menu, enough to tempt your interest without prolonging deliberation, with a fine selection of wines, cocktails & gins. We ordered a few espresso martinis to start, which are one of the best I’ve tried – they were rich and creamy, almost velvety like a liquid salted caramel & not too bitter. Highly recommend a try!

The Food

  1. Squid Black Paella – £11

I chose this dish from the ‘specials’ with high-hopes, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. The rice was nice, but when compared to the other dishes we ordered, this didn’t quite meet the mark.

2. Cured Meat Selection – £18

The cured meats were thinly sliced, moreish and melted in your mouth, served alongside toasted sourdough. My only criticism is the price, which I am unable to justify – whilst the meats were delicious, I’ve had the same standard for far less.

3. Tortilla – £8.50

This was by far the nicest dish we ordered. The centre was fluffy and flavoursome, with a creamy eggy core that melted on your tongue! We were in fork fights trying to tuck into the next piece.

We also ordered the Pan Con Tomate, a toasted sourdough slice smeared in a heavenly layer of tomato and olive oil, as well as some chilli stuffed olives. Generally, the experience was really lovely – great company, great food, great service, great vibe. The Tortilla and the Pan Con Tomate were the highlight dishes for me & appeared to be house favourites across the tables.
