Borough’s Best-Kept Secret: The Gelateria That Londoners Don’t Want You to Know About.
- Where? Borough Market, 4, Park Street & Notting Hill, 178 Portobello Road
- How much? ££
- What? Italian Gelateria
Caught in the unbearable heat of mid-June, while sweating amidst the ravenous Borough Market crowds, spotting a cup full of cool gelato felt like spotting an oasis in the desert… I thought I must be dreaming! After asking for directions and pushing through the summer crowds, I turned the corner to find that it wasn’t just an illusion after all—there it was, beneath its cream-colored canopy, in glistening emerald green, 3Bis gelateria.
Despite strolling through Borough Market every week, I have only recently come to know 3Bis, and ever since, I can’t get it out of my head! Since opening its doors in 2012, those who have discovered 3Bis hold it in high acclaim. A popular yet lesser-known spot that still manages to draw in the summer crowds, boasting a long queue down Park Street and plenty of happy customers bearing empty cups and cones. Everyone I’ve insisted on visiting 3Bis has hailed it as “the best gelato in London,” so I think it’s about time that i let everyone in on the secret!
3Bis serves a variety of sweet treats, including baked goods and milkshakes. However, they are most renowned for their gelato, which is made fresh every day. Like all great gelaterias, you won’t find steep ice cream mountains adorned with chocolate bars and rainbow drizzle. Instead, the gelato remains concealed beneath steel drums, the authentic Italian way. There are plenty of delicious flavours to choose from, all produced from fresh, natural ingredients, creating a rich and dense flavour. 3Bis is one of London’s hidden gems, a spot I highly recommend and will certainly be returning to myself!
